7. Re: P&O Mini-Cruise to Rotterdam-Taking Alcohol

I went on the Hull-Rotterdam ferry last October and took a few cans of beer in my suitcase to drink in my cabin. Yes, the cabins are poky, especially if you have an indoor cabin.

I ended up having a few pints in one the bars. The drinks are expensive (if you are from the north of England!) Aand they accept £ and €.

I've done the Harwich - Hook of Holland, Newcastle - Ijmuiden (Amsterdam) and the Hull - Rotterdam overnight ferries, and the latter has been the worse experience for me.

If you are getting the coach shuttle transfer from the ferry port at Rotterdam to Amsterdam be prepared for a long journey. P&0 advised me it would take 45 mins. In fact it took close to 2 hours!

The ferry arrived late too and they took ages to get all the foot passengers off. It was 11.15am by the time I was dropped off by the coach outside Amsterdam Central station and I had a reserved seat on a train to catch at 12.15pm so luckily had already allowed myself plenty of time.
